Walks, Wildlife and Bird Watching
The coastal path on the south west peninsula is some 500 miles long and the path around Penwith offers some of the most spectacular scenery and wild life. In many places there is always the chance to capture a glimpse of seals and other marine creatures. If you don’t get to see them in their natural surroundings then a trip to the National Seal Sanctuary at Gweek is worth a visit. The centre acts as a nursery for abandoned or orphaned seals and other animals.
Access to different parts of the coastal path is easy and the walks are breath taking in either calm or windy weather. Some sections can be tricky and for experienced walkers only. Young children may find it difficult and in some places the path does come close to some sudden drops, so please take care.
In-land from Cuckoo, there are some lovely country lanes, well walked footpaths and ancient sites to explore. The walk to Trencrom Hill is quite long but not too energetic, likewise to Castle-an-Dinas.

For bird watchers there is the reed marsh at Marazion, which is a place of special scientific interest and less than 2 miles from the cottage. The Hayle estuary with extensive mud flats is just up the A30 and the coastal areas offer another huge variety of bird life.
