Policies, Disability Access and Fire Safety
Access for People with Disabilities
Both bedrooms are upstairs and cannot be accessed by wheel chairs. However, the stairs are quite short and relaxed with a half landing, balustrades and handrails providing assistance on the stairs.
Wheel chairs can gain access to ground level although assistance over thresholds may be required.
Electrical sockets and light switches are within the heights recommended in the building regulations as suitable for people with disabilities.
Fire Safety
Although this is an old cottage, means of escape are in compliance with recommendations of the building regulations. The cottage was recently rewired throughout to current regulations and has two interlinked hard wired smoke alarms that cover exit routes from the bedrooms and living room. An interlinked heat detector is provided in the kitchen.
Care should be taken with the fires in the fire places at all times and a fire guard is provided for the traditional open fire. Doors on the wood burning stove in the inglenook fireplace should be closed and air vents opened.
A foam fire extinguisher is provided in the inglenook fireplace and a fire blanket in the kitchen.
